The Polar Loop

How do I START using Polar Loop?
To start using Polar Loop, you need to go to the Polar Flow web service:

- Plug in your Polar Loop to your computer’s USB port with the cable that came in the box.
- Download and install Polar FlowSync, the syncing software that you need for communication between your computer, the Polar Flow web service and Polar Loop.

- Create a Polar account in the Polar Flow web service (if you don’t already have one) and set up your Polar Loop.

- Trim the Polar Loop band to fit your wrist.

Put it on and start tracking your activity.

Getting Started with Polar Loop

What is the SIZING of Polar Loop?
You can trim your Polar Loop to perfectly fit for your wrist. Guidelines and the measurement tool are included in the sales package.
The minimum circumference is 145 mm or 5.7 inch (XS).
The maximum circumference is 235 mm or 9.3 inch (XL).

What if I trim the bracelet TOO SHORT for my wrist?
Contact Polar Customer Care or the place where you bought it within one month of the purchase date to have it serviced for free.

Make Polar Loop fit your wrist

Can we SHARE one Polar Loop within our family?
Polar Loop is designed to be your personal activity tracker. It’s trimmed to fit your wrist and the individual activity guidance it gives you is based on your physical settings. It works at its best with one person at a time. If you want to change the user, you can do a Factory reset. Just plug in Polar Loop to your computer’s USB port and reset it in Polar FlowSync. Please note, you cannot make the band longer if you’ve already trimmed it.

How do I CHANGE THE TIME on my Polar Loop?
The time display view on Polar Loop comes from your computer’s clock automatically. To change the time, you must first change the time on your computer and then sync your Polar Loop. You can also change the time format (12h or 24h) in the Polar Flow web service. If you change the time on your mobile device and sync the Polar Flow app with the Polar Flow web service and your Polar Loop, the time also changes on your activity tracker.

How does Polar Loop TRACK YOUR ACTIVITY?
An internal 3D accelerometer records your wrist movements. It analyses the frequency, intensity and irregularity of your movements together with your physical information, and guides you to reach your daily activity goal. It also displays your activity in steps and calories.

What sorts of ACTIVITIES are TRACKED?
Polar Loop tracks all activities 24/7 from light chores to intense sports and sitting and resting. If you wear it at night, it also tracks your sleep. You can also see the time you’ve taken off your activity tracker. You can view and share this data in the Polar Flow web service. Like other activity trackers, Polar Loop is sensitive to movements and it does not track load carried, uphill risen or force used in strength training, for example. Heart rate sensor is sensitive in these conditions, too.

What is ACTIVITY BENEFIT and what is it based on?
Activity benefit is one of Polar’s Smart Coaching features that gives you information about long-term health benefits and detailed feedback about your activity, including active time and sitting time. The feedback is based on international guidelines and research on the health effects of physical activity and sitting behavior. You will see your activity benefit in the Polar Flow web service or mobile app.

What sort of ACTIVITY can be defined in the UP CATEGORY?
UP category activities can be every-day activities or light physical low intensity activities that you do up on your feet like light household chores, gardening, baking, playing pool, slow walk or tai chi.

What are INACTIVITY ALERTS and why do I get them?
If you have been sitting still for one hour at a time, you will get an Inactivity Alert for every hour if you are only sitting still. They are reminds reminders for you to get up and take a short walk or do some other light activity to benefit your daily health. Sitting still for extended periods at a time is not good for your health. You can turn the alerts off in the Polar Flow mobile app. Just go to Settings -> Notifications -> Inactivity alerts -> Off. You can also check the total amount of inactivity alerts from the Polar Flow web service.

Can I CHANGE my DAILY ACTIVITY GOAL?
The daily activity goal is based on your physical settings and your typical day. You can change them in the Polar Flow web service. If you feel you need a more challenging goal, and your current typical day choice is Mostly sitting, you can change the typical day to Mostly standing or Mostly moving, for instance.

Why do I need to select a TYPICAL DAY? How does it affect my daily goal?
When you make this choice, Polar Loop can evaluate how much energy you consume daily and how it affects your metabolism. If you choose Mostly sitting, Polar Loop gives you the lowest Activity goal. Then again, with Mostly standing the goal will be a little higher, and with Moving as the highest. The Mostly standing, and Moving choices, can also be selected by more active people to get some more challenge.

Where does the DAILY TARGET come from?
The daily target arises from global physical activity recommendations for moderate and vigorous intensity activities, and research findings on the negative health effects of sedentary behavior. In fact, the daily target may slightly exceed most recommendations - in addition to one hour of moderate intensity activity the low intensity activity also plays an important role. The targeted amount of low intensity activity varies based on your typical day: an office worker is expected to reach about four hours of low intensity during an ordinary day while more hours can be expected if an ordinary day includes a lot of standing or moving work.
In a novel but very understandable way, the intensity limits for low/medium/high intensities depend on age and gender - the older and women reach their target with lower intensity compared to the younger and men. You fill in your typical day, age and gender when you start using the activity tracker in the Polar Flow web service.

What do the DIFFERENT TO GO TARGET READINGS mean?
With the TO GO options, Polar Loop tells you how you can reach your daily activity goal: first, you see the activity type and then the duration of how long you should perform the activity to reach that goal. For example, Polar Loop may give you the options JOG for 46 minutes, WALK for 1 hour 46 minutes, or UP for 5 hours 56 minutes. You don’t need to perform all of them, only one activity or a combination of them. The more active you are throughout the day, the shorter the duration of each activity becomes. The duration is longer with low intensity activities and shorter with high intensity activities.

- JOG stands for high intensity activity like jogging, exercise class, rope skipping, basketball, tennis, handball or squash.

- WALK stands for medium intensity activity like brisk walking, mowing the lawn, circuit training, bowling, skateboarding, gentle dancing, gentle swimming or table tennis.

- UP stands for low intensity activity up on your feet like cleaning, washing dishes, gardening, playing guitar, baking, playing pool, slow walk, playing darts or tai chi.

For more examples, see the Polar Flow web service or mobile app.

How does Polar Loop TRACK STEPS?
A 3D digital acceleration sensor measures your wrist movement. The frequency, intensity and irregularity of your movements are registered and utilized in the estimation of steps. Therefore you’ll accumulate steps even if you’re swimming for instance and not actually taking steps at all.

How are the STEPS accumulated if I wear my Polar Loop on my dominant hand?
You will get a bigger steps reading because your dominant hand naturally will do many more small moves compared to your non-dominant hand in every-day chores.
Polar Loop is designed to be worn on your non-dominant wrist. If your left wrist if you are right-handed, and vice versa. In higher intensities e.g. walking and running, there should not be a difference, however.

Why do I get MORE STEPS even though I’m not moving? While driving a car, for example?
Polar Loop updates the steps reading once a minute. You can take a lot of steps in one minute and notice the reading change quite a bit later. For example your activity before entering the car could be added by the time you check your steps reading. If you wear Polar Loop in your dominant hand, you will get more steps because the dominant hand is moving more when you are not taking actual steps.

How does Loop TRACK CALORIES?
Polar Loop displays your total caloric consumption, which includes both basic metabolism and activity-based calories. If you train with a compatible heart rate sensor, Polar Loop utilizes activity based calories at resting, sedentary and low intensities, and heart rate based calories at moderate and high intensities. Your physical details filled in the Polar Flow web service are used to make the calories tracking accurate to you.

How can it already show my CALORIES if I just started your it?
The daily activity calories that Polar Loop shows take into account your basic metabolism and the physical settings you filled in in the Polar Flow web service. Every bodily function takes effort, so your body burns calories even if you haven't accumulated any activity during the day. The displayed amount of calories has been calculated for the day you started using Polar Loop. The activity tracking resets at 0:00/midnight.

Does Polar Loop TRACK CYCLING accurately?
Activity trackers with accelerometers worn on your body or wrist are not ideal for cycling and weight training activities. In cycling Polar Loop will underestimate the amount of activity performed. If you wear a compatible Polar heart rate sensor, like H6 or H7, with your Polar Loop, you'll get more accurate information about your cycling and also get comprehensive heart rate training analysis.

Which HEART RATE SENSORS are COMPATIBLE with Polar Loop?
Polar Loop is compatible with Polar H6 and H7 Bluetooth Smart heart rate sensors. We cannot guarantee compatibility with other manufacturers' heart rate sensors at this time.
Can I USE my heart rate sensor TOGETHER with Polar Beat and Polar Loop?
Polar Loop and Polar Beat are compatible with Polar H6 and H7 Bluetooth Smart heart rate sensors. You can use the same sensor with both of them, but not at the same time. You must have at least a two two-minute break between the sessions, so that you can pair it with another device.

Connecting a Heart Rate Sensor with Polar Loop

My Polar Loop doesn't show my HEART BEAT. Why?
Make sure that:
- You're wearing a heart rate sensor that works with Polar Loop: either Polar H6 or H7 Bluetooth Smart.

- The electrode areas of the heart rate sensor strap are moistened.

- The heart rate sensor is correctly paired with Polar Loop: put on the sensor, bring your Polar Loop next to it and tap the touch button. Wait for the PAIRED text to scroll on the display. You only need to pair the sensor once. From now on, just wear the heart rate sensor, tap the button and wait for your heart rate to show up on the screen.

- The heart rate sensor is not in contact with any other devices via Bluetooth.

- Your Polar Loop is not in Flight mode. See the online user manual for details.

How does Polar Loop TRACK MY ACTIVITY if I use it together WITH a HEART RATE SENSOR?
Polar Loop tracks your moves and accumulates your active time. With a heart rate sensor, it gives you even more information about your training, such as heart rate in beats per minute and the main effect of your training; whether it’s burning fat or improving fitness. Also, you can track your cycling sessions much more accurately.
When you wear a heart rate sensor, it shows up in the Polar Flow web service as a training session after you've synced your data.

How is NIGHT’S SLEEP TIME calculated, what is it based on? Do I need to activate a sleep mode?
No, you don’t need to activate sleep mode. Based on your wrist movements Polar Loop estimates when you are sleeping. Sleep time is calculated from the longest continuous rest time of the 24 hours from 18:00/6pm to 18:00/6pm. (To be precise, the wake-up time needs to be found within the time period.)
You can view your sleep times in the Polar Flow web service or in the Polar Flow mobile app.

Why does the LED light up when I'm taking a SHOWER or SWIMMING?
Polar Loop has a capacitive touch button that reacts to water as well as to a human touch. No need to worry though, your Polar Loop is water-resistant and can be worn during swimming and showering.

How do I TRANSFER DATA from my Polar Loop to the Polar Flow web service?
You can transfer data from your Polar Loop via USB cable or wirelessly via Bluetooth Smart with the Polar Flow app. Every time you plug in your Polar Loop to your computer, the Polar FlowSync software will transfer your data to the Polar Flow web service and sync any settings you may have changed in the service. The Polar FlowSync software must be running on your computer’s taskbar (Windows) or menu bar (Mac OS X) for the automatic sync to work. If you use the Polar Flow mobile app, you can sync your data automatically with the web service by opening the app and tapping the touch button. The automatic sync takes place in the background once an hour.

How often do I need to SYNC?
For example, Polar Loop has the memory capacity to store either 12 days of activity and 4 one-hour training sessions with a heart rate sensor or 7 days of activity and 8 one-hour training sessions. Training sessions are recorded when you wear a compatible heart rate sensor. You will get a MEM. FULL warning when the memory capacity reaches 80%. When the memory becomes full, the oldest activity data is overwritten by the most recent activity data.

Why should I UPDATE the Polar Loop software? What happens when I do that with Polar FlowSync?
To get the best out of your Polar Loop and to keep it up-to-date, we recommend always using the latest version of the firmware. If new updates for Polar Loop are available, Polar FlowSync will automatically prompt you to update it. When you start the update, Polar FlowSync will sync all your activity data with the Polar Flow web service first. It will then update the Polar Loop software, which will erase all the activity data from the bracelet. For this reason the Polar Flow mobile app and Polar Loop may show incomplete activity data for this day, but not to worry, all your activity data is added up in the Polar Flow web service: it combines the activity data from before and after the software update.

Can I USE ONE COMPUTER to sync SEVERAL Polar Loops?
Yes, every Polar Loop is tied to one Polar account. You will sign in to your own user account in Polar Flow when you sync your own Polar Loop.

Where can I find the Polar FLOWSYNC software?
www.flow.polar.com/loop to install Polar FlowSync software

When INSTALLING Polar FlowSync my computer is asking me to restart. What do I need to do?
You don't need to restart your computer right away. Click Later and continue with the installation and sync your Polar Loop.

I CAN’T SEE Polar Loop in Polar FlowSync and can't continue the setup. What do I need to do?
Try one of these options:

- Unplug the USB cable, then plug it back in and try again.

- Restart Polar FlowSync and try again.

- Try another USB port in your computer.

How do I RESET my Polar Loop?
You can do a Factory reset on your Polar Loop. It removes Polar Loop’s connection to your user account and deletes any saved data on it. Plug in your Polar Loop to your computer’s USB port and go to Polar FlowSync software, click Settings and Factory Reset. If you want to continue using Polar Loop, go back to the Polar Flow web service and repeat what you did when you first started using the product.

My Polar Loop display DOESN’T WAKE UP even if I press the touch button. What should I do?
Make sure you’ve connected the activity tracker with your computer and completed the setup before starting to use it.

Wear Polar Loop on your wrist or place your finger on the custom USB cable connector and then touch the button.

Check that the battery is not empty: connect Polar Loop to a computer or a wall charger with the USB cable.

If the Polar Loop button is wet, has steam or frost on it, it will probably respond to your touch with less sensitivity than in dry indoor conditions. Instead of a quick forefinger touch, you may have to use your thumb to cover more surface. You may also have to wait until the surface has dried off completely.

It’s also possible that if you’ve not worn or used your Polar Loop for a long time, it might take a while for the button to start working. In that case, wear the activity tracker on your wrist for some time and try again later.

Which MOBILE PHONES are COMPATIBLE with Polar Loop?
Polar Loop's optional mobile companion, the Polar Flow app, is compatible only with Apple’s iPhones, starting with iPhone 4S. Polar Loop communicates wirelessly with the Polar Flow mobile app via Bluetooth Smart, which is currently available for iPhone 4S and newer.

The POLAR LOOP manual is provided with this product.
